- HOW EAST INDIA COMPANY GOT IT’S FOOTHOLD IN INDIA?
It was the time when Moghul Emperor Jahangir was ruling India. His son Shahjahan only about ten, became seriously ill. In the mean time, one eminent English doctor, Dr. Thomas Row came to India from England. He was asked to treat the prince if he could. His treatment started with more prayers than hope since the prince by then, had become very weak. However, to everybody’s amazement, after some time, prince started responding to doctor’s line of treatment and started improving. Treatment continued and in a few months, prince was hail and hearty.
Everyone was happy but most of all the emperor himself. Jahangir told his minsters to Reward the doctor with gold and precious jewels equivalent to doctor’s weight who was treated like angel in the palace by now. To every one’s shock and surprise, doctor refused the lucrative offer of reward. Jahangir himself could not believe that a person could refuse such huge extravaganza.
However, when prompted, doctor told the emperor, he does not want anything for himself since what he has only done his duty. However, if emperor was keen to reward him, doctor asked for emperor’s permission for his country, Britain, to trade with India.
Permission was duly granted to East India Company which laid the foundation for 200 years of Indian slavery to the British Raj.

- A real life story of character and sacrifice during acute distress!
A Taiwanese journalist reported a remarkably touching story of unparalleled integrity, patience, sacrifice, discipline and National character, exhibited by a nine year old Japanese boy, during the last Tsunami in Japan. While this journalist was trying to help out after the tsunami, he saw a long queue for food distribution and almost, at the end of the queue, spotted a nine year old boy, shivering in the cold. Journalist could make out, that by the time of boy’s turn would come, whatever little food they had for distribution, would be finished.
When enquired by the journalist, boy told him that both his parents and younger sister, were washed away by the tsunami two days back. He was saved because he was out of the house at that time. Boy was homeless and had not eaten for two whole days.
Journalist took out his own food packet and gave it to the boy. Very coolly, boy took the packet, went to the people who were distributing the food and gave the packet to them. Journalist was stunned to see that, but the boy explained that whatever food was available, was to be shared. He will get his food only when his turn comes in the queue.
That’s why he gave that food packet also to the food-pool. Journalist could only look away and cried.
