Why Be GENEROUS
It was when ice-creams or rather nothing were so expensive. A ten year old boy saved from his meager pocket money to have a SUNDAE Ice-Cream and went to an ice-cream parlor. While sitting at the table, he asked the waitress “how much a Sundae ice-cream costs?” “50 cents” she replied. The boy took out the money from his packet and started counting it. After counting his money, he again asked the waitress “how much a simple vanilla ice-cream costs?”
There were other people also waiting to be served, so waitress began to get a little impatient. “35 cents” she replied abruptly. The boy counted his money again and said “Please get me a simple Vanilla ice-cream”. The waitress served him the ice-cream and the bill. The boy ate his ice-cream, paid his bill and left. When waitress came to pick up the cash, she had tears in her eyes. There, in the corner of the plate, were 15 cents, her tip. The boy had ordered a simple vanilla ice-cream instead of a Sundae, so that he could leave a tip for her.
Opposite of ‘Generosity’ is ‘miserliness’ or ‘being stingy with money’. Generosity makes a ‘poor’ man rich. ‘Miserliness or being stingy’ makes a rich man look poor. Generosity is when you want to share whatever you have now, not from the plenty you might have later. Being generous elevates you in your own eyes, which in itself, feels great. You have to love yourself before others love you. Mind you, elevation does not mean to look others down. It only means that you respect yourself, are a person of high self-esteem & self-worth.
